RANDALL OUTLAND, tenor

Tenor Randall Outland has appeared in leading roles in many of the world’s major opera houses. In Europe, he has sung at the Vienna State Opera, Cologne Opera, Berlin State Opera, Dresden Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Düsseldorf Opera, and the Berne (Switzerland) Theater. In the United States, Mr. Outland has performed with the New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, Charlotte, Knoxville, and Chattanooga Operas. He was featured in the role of Don Ottavio in a production of Don Giovanni with the Canadian Opera, which was broadcast over Canadian National Television. As Ferrando in Cosí fan tutte, the tenor has toured the Colombian cities of Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, and in Tel Aviv he has performed the role of Tamino in Mozart’s The Magic Flute with the Israel Philharmonic. In Stockholm, he appeared as Nerone in Handel’s Agrippina in the beautiful, baroque Royal Drottningholm Theater. His operatic repertoire spans the history of opera, from the works of Monteverdi, Handel and Mozart to the twentieth century works of Richard Strauss, Hans Werner Henze, Leos Janácek and Benjamin Britten. Randall Outland has sung twenty–six roles in thirty–four different productions. He has collaborated with world–renowned conductors and stage directors, and shared the stage with many of the world’s finest singers. Critics have lauded Randall Outland as “a tenor of high quality”, “a tenor with an extraordinarily beautiful voice”who “sings with melting sweetness and gleaming top notes”.

Randall Outland has performed oratorio and concerts extensively in the United States and Europe. Venues have included the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, Germany as tenor soloist in the 9th Symphony; the Oslo Mozart Festival in Oslo, Norway singing the Mozart Requiem; the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center singing the tenor soli in Mozart's Große Messe with Robert Shaw conducting; and in Boston, the American premiere of Requiem by Swiss composer, Frank Martin, with the John Oliver Chorale. Mr. Outland has performed literature spanning the works of Bach, Handel and Mozart to the 20th century works of Britten, Janácek, Ramírez and Stravinsky. He continues to explore traditional and modern oratorio and concert repertoire.

Early in his career, the Franz Schubert Institute in Baden bei Wien, Austria recognized Mr. Outland’s abilities on the recital stage. The tenor was awarded second prize for Excellence in the Interpretation and Performance of the German Lied, and was featured in a live recital broadcast over Austrian National Radio.

Since 1995, Randall Outland has been a member of the voice faculty at the Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. His students are winning national and international auditions and being accepted into prestigious graduate programs across the United States.
