All transfer students wishing to major in Art at Appalachian State must first be accepted into the Department of Art through the FOUNDATIONS PORTFOLIO REVIEW. If you are an art minor who has not passed Foundations Portfolio Review or non-art major please read information below.

Upon successful admittance, art majors wishing to receive transfer or substitution credit for art courses taken at another university must submit a portfolio of actual artwork, syllabi or the catalog description for each course submitted, a copy of your transcripts for art courses (does not have to be an official copy), and the completed forms for Transfer Credit Review held at the end of each semester on Reading Day (day after the last day of class, see University Academic Calendar).

The Transfer Credit Review determines whether or not art courses taken at another institution will count for degree requirements at Appalachian State. The quality of the portfolio, along with college credits earned will determine the level at which you are placed in your program of study. You must then complete the remaining course work and other departmental requirements in order to receive an art degree from Appalachian State.

Transfer Review for Art Minors (non-portfolio) and Non-art Majors
Art minors who have not participated in Foundations Portfolio Review and non-art majors wishing to receive credit for art courses taken at another university or substitution credit for Foundations courses must submit a portfolio of actual artwork, syllabi or the catalog description for each course submitted, a copy of your transcripts for art courses (does not have to be an official copy), and the completed forms for Art Minor/Non-Art Major Transfer Review held in October and March of each academic year.
