Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio (BFA)
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio is a degree that emphasizes the development of skills, concepts, and creative sensitivities essential to the professional artist. The BFA student may choose from the following concentrations: Clay, Fibers, Metalsmithing + Jewelry Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture. Graduates with a BFA in studio are prepared to enter the arena of the professional artist.

The BFA curriculum provides an in-depth study in studio preparation beginning with Foundations, Design, Drawing, and beginning studio courses. The student then selects two areas for intensive study. These two areas will involve a progressively greater depth in study oriented toward the achievement of excellence in both technical skill and expressive potential. Art History is an integral part of this curriculum, with survey courses being offered every semester. Specialty courses focusing on selected periods, disciplines, non-Western cultures and selected artists are offered alternate semesters. The senior year culminates in a multidisciplinary Senior Seminar/Studio experience that includes an exiting group exhibition.

A comprehensive schedule of course offerings, selected topics courses, visiting artist lectures, workshops, independent studies, and internships expose our students to a broad range of artistic expression, while inviting them to participate through their own studio activity. Cross-disciplinary and multi-media approaches to work are also encouraged.

Bachelor of Arts in Studio (BA)
The BA in Art concentration integrates studio art practice with a broad based, well-rounded liberal arts education. This concentration is designed for students who want a variety of studio art experiences but whose interests also encompass academic disciplines outside the visual arts. Although the BA in Art requires fewer studio courses than the BFA studio degree, students pursuing the BA concentration are free to choose whatever configuration of studio courses suits their needs. After completing the beginning foundation design and drawing requirements, students can take courses in any of the following studio areas: Clay, Fibers, Metalsmithing + Jewelry Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture. Art History is an integral part of this concentration, as students must take the two-semester survey of art history as well as more specialized courses focusing on selected periods, cultures and/or media. BA in Art students are required to have a 16 to 18 semester hour minor in a discipline outside of the visual arts. In addition, BA in art students must take 6 to 12 hours of a foreign language.

The BA in Art degree program also offers an interdisciplinary studio art/art history concentration. Students pursuing this concentration take a balanced combination of studio art and art history courses. The studio foundations, minor and language requirements are the same as for the BA in Art concentration.
