Welcome to Food Services
Appalachian Food Services is unique when compared to food services at other
universities. We are proudly operated by Appalachian State University (not
by an outside, for-profit corporation, like many other schools), and we operate
on a declining balance system, which makes it possible for students to decide
where and when to spend their money. Appalachian Food Services receives no
state funding.
All food items on our serving line are priced individually; so that, you may
choose what you want to eat. After making your choices, a cashier will total
the amount of your choices and insert your AppCard into the card reader on
the cash register. This will read your account number and the amount that
is in your Meal Account. One second later, the terminal will indicate the new
balance in your account. Each time you use your AppCard, your new balance will
be shown.
Students living in residence halls are required to participate in
Appalachian Food Services by purchasing a Meal Account each semester.
Balances carry from Fall to Spring semester and end with Commencement in May. Any balance remaining at the end of the spring semester does not carry over into another semester. The meal account is non-refundable. The only refund granted is when the student goes through the official withdrawal process from the university. The money refunded will be from the current semester only. Money from the prior semester will not be refunded.
During the academic year, you may purchase a meal option or add to your Meal
Account balance at the AppCard Office in Trivette Hall, or you may add money
online to the account.
Meal Accounts are accepted in all dining units of Appalachian Food Services,
The Market (campus convenience stores), Crossroads Coffee House, all vending
machines, and the Jackson Dining Room at The Broyhill Inn for food and non-alcoholic
beverages.
Students living off-campus may purchase a Meal Account or use their Appalachian
Express Account in the above locations. Cash may also be used for payment.
