Calculate your GPA
The grade point average (GPA) is a general measure of the student’s academic achievement. The GPA is determined by dividing the total number of quality points (QPs) earned by the total number of quality hours (QHs) attempted. QPs and QHs are derived only from courses graded “A” through “F” or “W/F” (withdraw failing). Courses graded “S/U” are not used in the GPA calculation. When courses are graded "P/F", a grade of "P" will not be used in the GPA calculation, but a grade of "F" will be used in the GPA calculation. In the new Banner registration system, Quality Hours are also referred to as "GPA Hours".

What are quality points?
Quality points (QPs) are points awarded for each course graded A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F, or WF. The chart below shows the number of quality points assigned to each grade.

What are quality hours?
Quality Hours (QHs) are semester hours attempted for courses which receive a grade of “A” through “F”. Courses graded “P/F” or “S/U” do not earn quality points and are not used to calculate your GPA.
What if I’m repeating a course?
When a course is repeated, the initial grade can be excluded from computation in the student’s GPA for a maximum of four (4) different courses. The student must file a repeat form in the Registrar’s Office to indicate which courses are to be excluded from GPA computation. This must be done by the last day of the exam period of the term when the course is repeated. When calculating your cumulative GPA, subtract QPs and QHs initially earned in courses you have repeated before dividing total QPs by total QHs.
How do I calculate my College of Business GPA?
To calculate your College of Business GPA, get the QPs and QHs for all courses that begin with ACC, BUS, CIS, ECO, FIN, FIR, HCM, HOS, LAW, MGT, and MKT. Use the GPA formula (QPs ÷ QHs = GPA) to determine your College of Business GPA. If you have taken a course more than once, use only the QPs and QHs from the last time the course was taken.
University minimum standards
To remain in good standing, a student must have the following cumulative grade point average as follows:
After 0-15 attempted hours: 1.75
After 16-30 attempted hours: 1.90
After 31-45 attempted hours (and thereafter): 2.00
How do I calculate my major GPA?
If you want to include your major GPA on your resume, we recommend that you do this in one of two ways. You can use your College of Business GPA as your major GPA or you can use only the required courses and required electives in your major (do not include COB electives or courses in the COB core).
For example, a management major would use the 12 semester hours of required management courses and the 6 semester hours of management electives. A management major would not include MGT 3630 or MGT 4750 from the COB core or any COB electives even if they are management courses. Again, once you have the total QPs and QHs for all courses that will be included, use the GPA formula (QPs ÷ QHs = GPA) to determine your major GPA. If you have taken a course more than once, use only the QPs and QHs from the last time the course was taken.
NOTE: In order to graduate, marketing majors must have a 2.0 GPA in the eighteen (18) hours of marketing courses in the major (fifteen semester hours of required marketing courses and three semester hours of marketing electives); accounting majors must have a 2.0 GPA in the twenty-seven (27) hours of accounting courses in the major (twenty-one hours of required accounting courses and six hours of accounting electives); information systems majors under the check sheet beginning fall 2002 (or after) must have a 2.5 GPA in the twenty-four (24) hours of required and elective CIS course for the major (not including CIS 1025 and CIS 2990) and International Business majors must have a 2.0 GPA in the fifteen (15) hours of foreign language courses required for the major.
