Walker College Clubs and Organizations
Deans' Council of student advisors
The Deans' Council membership is comprised of the president and vice president of each of the student organizations within the college. The council members meet twice a semester to advise the dean of their organization's activities and student concerns and to be apprised of upcoming events within the college. Members are also invited to participate in activities involving the business community and the college's Business Advisory Council.
Walker College's Student Travel Grant Program [PDF] assists business students with the cost of travel related to (1) course field trips, and (2) student club and organization travel, provided that the travel involves a significant educational component.
Professional Organizations
AIESEC Appalachian State
Faculty Advisor:Penny Kuzyszyn
AIESEC is the world's largest student held organization and is established in over 100 countries. This club focuses on developing leadership skills as well as expanding students' worldviews. As a result, we believe individuals will use these skills to increase international understanding and cooperation, providing solutions to a more secure and peaceful world. We provide international internships and exchange, cultural events on campus, and leadership opportunities and development.

AMERICAN MARKETING ASSOCIATION (AMA)
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Jennifer Nivens Henson
The American Marketing Association is committed to giving students a link to the business world through quality speakers from diverse industries. AMA also gives students the opportunity to participate in both professional and social activities. The organization is open to all students who have an interest in business.
ASSOCIATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS (AITP)
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Scott Hunsinger
AITP allows students interested in Information Systems to get together for professional development and social purposes. AITP offers speakers on related topics, opportunities to meet and interact with professionals in the field (potential job contacts), and social gatherings with others of similar interests.

ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT ENTREPRENEURS (ASE)
Faculty Advisor: Mr. Bryan Toney
The purpose of the Association of Student Entrepreneurs is to: 1) provide an organization for college students who have the passion to found, construct and operate their own successful company; 2) promote inspiration, creativity and expertise on how to start and/or operate a successful company; and 3) encourage students to interact with businesses, Appalachian faculty and other students with similar ambitions.

BETA ALPHA PSI
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Ron Marden
Beta Alpha Psi is a national accounting fraternity. The purposes of Beta Alpha Psi are to help prepare accounting students for a career in accounting, develop communications skills and to aid students in finding a job. Retired Appalachian professor Dr. Eugene Butts was the national president of Beta Alpha Psi during the 1993-94 academic year.

CLUB MANAGERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA
ECONOMICS CLUB
Faculty Advisor: Mr. Bill McGalliard & Dr. Mark Strazicich
The Economics Club promotes interaction between economics majors and minors and between students and faculty. Activities include social gatherings, educational trips, and speakers regarding employment opportunities.
FINANCE STUDENT ASSOCIATION

The Finance Student Association is a student-run organization designed to promote learning of finance and real estate, promote employment opportunities, provide a link between classroom activities and real world practice, and promote relations between club members, faculty and practitioners.

FUTURE HEALTHCARE EXECUTIVES
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Susan Roggenkamp
Future Health Care Executives is a club for students interested in health care management. Sponsored activities include current event discussions, guest speakers, conventions, socials, career day, resume books and other informative events pertaining to health care management careers. The club is affiliated with the national organization.

HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT STUDENT ASSOCIATION (HTMSA)
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Michael Evans
The purpose of HMTSA is to offer a fun, learning environment for hospitality students. Also the club prepares students for the future through guest speakers and recruiting opportunities. There is an auction in the fall to raise money for the career fair - Appalachian Springtime - held during the spring semester.

The purpose of the North Carolina World Trade Association is to expand students' knowledge of global business through networking among professionals while increasing member awareness and knowledge of current global trends.

Phi Beta Lambda is a national professional business organization for any students interested in business. Each year the organization receives many awards at state conferences.

Pi Sigma Epsilon is a national, co-ed fraternity and professional organization for any major who is interested in how selling and marketing can enhance personal and career skills.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT GROUP
RISK MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE SOCIETY
Faculty Advisors: Dr. Karen Epermanis and Mrs. Angel Wood
The RMI Society is an organization for students interested in the field of risk management and insurance. The organization's purpose is to introduce members to opportunities available in the fields of insurance and risk management through various activities, events, guest speakers and travel.
SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (SHRM)
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Jacqui Bergman
This club is a student chapter of the American Society for Human Resource Management - the professional human resource organization. We are interested in new developments in the human resources area. SHRM is designed to provide students the opportunity to meet and listen to business professionals speak on their individual methods of dealing with human resources issues. Students also attend monthly SHRM meetings in Winston-Salem.
STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE (SIFE)
Faculty Advisor: Mr. William Parrish
This club is to promote an atmosphere of cooperation, creativity, competition, and awareness of the free enterprise system. Since its establishment in 1997, the club has repeatedly won awards on the regional, national and international levels.

BETA GAMMA SIGMA
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Heather Hulburt
Beta Gamma Sigma is a national honor society for graduates and undergraduates enrolled in business colleges accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. A junior must have 45 hours at Appalachian and be in the top 10 percent of the class. A senior must have 45 hours at Appalachian and be in the top 10 percent of the class. A graduate student must have 18 hours and be in the top 20 percent of the class.
EPSILON CHI OMICRON
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Bob Goddard
Epsilon Chi Omicron is an international business honor society. Members are chosen for their academic excellence. The club also sponsors a paper competition for its members, with winners receiving a cash prize and travel expenses to present the paper.
OMICRON DELTA EPSILON
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Larry Ellis
Omicron Delta Epsilon is an economics honor society. Its annual induction ceremony is held in April.
SIGMA IOTA EPSILON
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Mark Pruett
Sigma Iota Epsilon is an honorary fraternity for management majors. Its activities vary from year to year, depending on the level of involvement sought by the particular group and its officers. Appalachian's chapter was installed in 1993-94.
