REGISTRATION will be in the Student Union (see map). A $10.00 fee per delegate is due at registration (if paying by check, make it payable to International Relations Association). Delegate packets and advisor packets will be issued at this time. Registration will close during Opening Ceremonies (4:00-5:00 pm), then reopen.
PARKING: Parking for school vehicles with school identification will be permitted along River Street. Personal cars need to park in the Parking Deck on River Street. A map of campus is located at http://www.web.appstate.edu/asuinfo/maps/on_campus_directions/diagram_map.htm
AN ORIENTATION SESSION will be held from 3:15-3:50 in the Blue Ridge Ballroom to review the rules of procedure and to answer any questions about the conference.
FORMAL CONFERENCE BUSINESS begins at 4:00 pm Wednesday in the Student Union (Blue Ridge Ballroom). After welcoming remarks, delegations will be asked to make opening statements (no more than 1 1/2 minutes each). After a dinner break, the first session will begin (arrive in your rooms at 6:15; conference begins promptly at 6:30). On Thursday morning, the conference will begin at 9:30 am and last until 4:00; there will be a lunch break from 12:15 to 1:30.
AN AWARDS CEREMONY will be held Thursday at 4:10 pm in the Blue Ridge Ballroom. Although the conference stresses participation as a goal rather than competition, there will be recognition given to those who perform well (see criteria below).
THE DRESS CODE calls for formal business attire such as dress pants or shirts and button-up shirts or blouses. Suit and ties are encouraged.
DRAFT RESOLUTIONS may be brought to the conference. Please bring ONLY ONE COPY of any draft resolution the delegation would like to sponsor. Participants are expected to work with other delegations to modify and/or combine resolutions that then may be placed on the floor for consideration (following approval by the chair). See http://www1.appstate.edu/dept/ira/rules/index.html for rules and procedures. See the following - http://www1.appstate.edu/dept/ira/resolutions/index.html - for information on drafting resolutions.
AWARD CRITERIA:
1. Knowledge of country position 50%
2. Skill in using parliamentary procedure 20%
3. Ability of all delegation members to
cultivate political support and votes for
positions taken during the session 30%
