Creeping Jacob's Ladder

This plant is found north and west of our area, mainly in basic soils. It is found fairly frequently in Kentucky. The flowers are bell-shaped and blue with white stamens. The compound leaves are composed of several opposite leaflets forming the "ladder". Jacob's Ladder belongs to the Phlox family (Polemoniaceae). It blooms in April and early May.
