Pink Turtlehead Chelone lyonii

Picture Taken September 13, 2001
This relative of snapdragons blooms from August to October and is abundant at high elevations, often
found in spruce-fir forests. The pink to rose-purple flowers do resemble a turtle's head. The leaves of
this plant have a rounded base and long tapering point. Other species have leaves that taper at both ends
or are sessile, having no petiole or leaf stem.
