Dr. Canu’s current research program consists of three active strands, as follows.
1. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Development, adjustment, and treatment of individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) across the lifespan. Specific emphases include social and romantic adjustment, association with risky behavior (e.g., gambling, illicit use of stimulant medication), and developmentally appropriate assessment of adults.
2. Learning Differences in College Students: Direct student support services and faculty development for appropriate instruction. Specific emphasis on implementation of College STAR Program (www.collegestar.ecu.edu) at Appalachian State and evaluation of program efficacy.
3. Rural Clinical Psychology: Mental health outcomes in rural communities. Specific emphasis on examining how varying degrees of industrial activity in Appalachia is associated with presentation for emergent services. Interest in developing research related to service in primary care settings and via remote methods (e.g., telehealth). |
