Welcome to the Department of Technology at Appalachian State University
A guiding philosophy of our Department is the informed and responsible use of technology, and we have developed a reputation for innovative research in the areas of energy-efficient building practices, renewable energy, and sustainable design. Students work with faculty on research and development efforts to promote the ideals of sustainability within the built environment. We are also committed to offering international study experiences for students, with recent study abroad programs in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Western Europe, and several other countries.

Ramsdell honored with Transforming North Carolina Award- Jeff Ramsdell, associate professor in the Department of Technology, is one of two recipients of the Transforming North Carolina Faculty Research Award.
Junior interior design major wins scholarship, receives honorable mention- Shannon Rae Peterson, a junior interior design student at Appalachian State University, was selected as the recipient of the education scholarship for Women in the Home Furnishings Industry Today (WithIT) at the panel-led event held in Las Vegas over the summer.
