Dr. Paul Gates (1995), Assistant Professor, teaches communication law, communication ethics, introduction to journalism, introduction to mass communication, print newswriting, and mass media and society. He received his bachelor of arts from Hobart College, his master's from the University of South Carolina, his juris doctor from California Western School of Law, and his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. Dr. Gates is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, the American Journalism Historians Association, and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Before teaching at Appalachian, Dr. Gates worked for newspapers and wire services in Massachusetts, Louisiana, and California.
