Dr. Jacob Matovu (1986), Associate Professor, teaches public relations courses and introduction to mass communication. Dr. Matovu received his bachelor of arts in English and religion/philosophy from the University of East Africa at Makerere University College in Uganda, his master of arts in communication (journalism/print) from Wheaton College in Illinois, and his doctorate from the University of Iowa. Dr. Matovu has worked for the Uganda Church Press as an editorial assistant, a publications assistant, and a director and book publisher. He was a graduate teaching assistant at The University of Iowa and had summer teaching fellowships at Pennsylvania State University and Indiana University. He came to Appalachian State University in 1986 after teaching at Georgia Southern College. Dr. Matovu is a member of the International Communication Association, the Public Relations Society of America, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and the African Studies Association.
