The Beasley Scholarship (available for one or more students)
Requirements:

1. You must be/intend to be a broadcast major.
2. You must file for financial aid for 1999. Check with Financial Aid office in Thomas Bldg. for deadline information.
3. Preference is given to candidates from Patrick County, VA; Surry County, NC; and Mount Airy, NC. Other candidates will be considered if no one from these areas qualifies.
4. You must be a full-time student (12 hours).
Application Procedure

A complete application consists of:
1. A resume.
2. At least two letters of reference.
3. A 500- to 1,000-word essay describing in detail the experiences in your life -- whether academic or nonacademic -- which have led to your career goal and/or your intended major.
4. An interview may be required.

The Charles E. Porterfield Scholarship (awarded to one student)
Requirements

1. Communication major
2. Finished sophomore year.
3. Minimum 3.0 GPA.
4. Demonstrated financial need.
5. Full-time student (12 hours).

Carol J. Hughes Memorial Scholarship for Communication (awarded to one student)
Requirements 1. Rising senior
2. Communication major
3. Minimum 3.0 GPA
4. Full-time student
5. Must be involved in at least two ASU-sponsored extracurricular activities - one of which must be of nonacademic sponsorship

The Golden and Stella Choi Scholarship for Communication Students
Requirements 1. Sophomore status or higher.
2. Full-time student.
3. Majoring in Communication, priority given to journalism and broadcasting majors.
4. Minimum 3.0 GPA.

David H. Matthews Scholarship for Communication Arts
Requirements 1. Rising juniors or seniors.
2. Majoring in Communication.
3. Full-time student.
4. Minimum 3.0 GPA.

Continuing Student Scholarship Awards

Requirements 1. Sophomore status or higher.
2. Enrollment at ASU for at least one year, but less than 8 semesters.
3. A cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
4. Demonstrated financial need.

Notes

$500/year or $250/semester, no awards for summer school. These are one-year awards. Students may reapply for consideration in subsequent years.
