What are instructional technologies?

Instructional technologies are media, often electronic, applied to educational purposes.  Computer based training (CBT), interactive video disks (IVDs), teleconferencing, simulations, and printed books are examples of instructional technologies. Each of these media have known advantages and disadvantages which determine when they should and should not be used for training and education purposes.
