class. You will need to prepare a short presentation on each one of
these themes.
- Introduction -- a general introduction to the region / country
addressing some of the following issues:
- Geography
- Climate
- Demography (including minorities)
- Economy
- History (with emphases on encounters)
- Culture
- Religion
- Politics
- The traditional background
- Art – prevailing forms and contexts
- Music – prevailing genres, musical instruments
- The transition into the modern and factors that influenced it
- The contemporary scene
- Art – emergence of new schools, techniques, and genres

- Reception / Collaboration / Convergence – interaction of / with
the west
- Reports on individual research projects
