Students seeking the B. S. degree in Child Development may elect one of three areas:

Each of these programs prepares students for successful careers working with or on behalf of families and children. The Family and Consumer Sciences concentration is broader in scope preparing the student for professional job opportunities following graduation working with many agencies and programs. The Birth through Kindergarten major leads to a North Carolina Teaching License and profession teaching positions with the public schools, and the Psychology concentration is designed to prepare the student for additional study in graduate school.
Child Development graduates have five broad career options:
Serving children directly as a
Teacher or director of child development centers
Teacher or administrator of Head Start Programs
Public School educator
Child Life Specialists in a hospital setting
Serving families directly as a
Co-operative Extension Agent
Caseworker with social services
Intervention specialist
Organizing services for children and families as a

Providing information for those who work with children and families as a
