Describe the normative sample
|
927 children between the ages of 2-0 and 5-11 were tested at 411 sites in 7 cities between December 1982 and June 1994. 852 of those children were selected to develop normative data for the KLPA. It contained 442 females and 410 males who were either white, black, Hispanic or other. |

Are the norms appropriate for use in Boone? |
Yes |
|
Describe how reliability was established |
Short-term test-retest -Goldman Fristoe was administered by a Kahn Lewis author to 149 children aged 2-0 through 5-11 then completed the Kahn Lewis. The same author readministered the Goldman-Fristoe after an interval of 7-14 days, and completed the Kahn Lewis immediately after. Long-term test-retest – 51 children in the standardization sample were retested 1 year after the initial standardization. The mean age was 3-5 on the first administration and 4-4 on the second. |
|
Describe how validity was established |
Content-Validity: Provides for an analysis of single words rather than of continuous speech. For example, when deletion of final consonants is the most frequent phonological process used in a child’s continuous speech, it tends to be the most frequent in single words produced by the same child. Construct-Validity: Is supported by the following: 1) Developmental changes 2) Profiles of scores for children with speech disorders 3) Interrelationships among the phonological processes 4) Internal consistency of the test 5) Correlations with an articulation test |
|
Describe a situation for which it would be chosen over the other tests |
A child has been given the Goldman-Fristoe and needs to be further assessed on phonological processes |
|
Describe a situation for which it should not be chosen over the other tests. |
If the child has not been given the Goldman-Fristoe this test cannot be administered. |
