At present, I am teaching half-time in the Department of Communication. The other half of my time is spent as the Faculty Coordinator for Service-Learning and the Public Service Research Program (PSRP). The PSRP is designed to help seniors engage in community-based research for their thesis. For more details, visit the PSRP website.

Note: most course materials are now on AsULearn, so you cannot access them unless you are registered for the course. However, I provided basic course goals below, so you can see what is the expected outcome of each course.

Communication Studies Seminar
COM 4432 The goal of this capstone course is to have students draw connections between their previous coursework and major works in the discipline, through discussions, presentations, and writing. A second goal is to assist students in transitioning from college to their first professional jobs. What unites these two goals are the concepts of identity and agency, which will be the organizing themes of this course. We will be exploring what what being a communicator has meant through the ages, what it means to you personally that you are a communicator, and how this identity will shape the rest of your career.

Public Service Research Program: Parkway Research
GH 3530 This course is team-based, interdisciplinary, community-based research (CBR) project, in collaboration with the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is designed for students who are not starting their senior thesis yet, but who have had some exposure to the research tools of their discipline--that's why it's targeted at juniors, although "advanced" sophomores and certainly any seniors are welcome. Supported by a 3-year grant from the Corporation for National & Community Service, this seminar class will introduce students to CBR and engage them in work on a piece of a large, multi-year and multi-disciplinary research problem. For more details, see the PSRP website.
