Introduction

     Symmetry is present in every aspect of our lives.  An understanding of how to classify the symmetry of molecules allows us an even deeper appreciation of nature and science.  Point group classifications are important in Group Theory, in determining chirality and in crystallography.

Symmetry Elements

     A symmetry element exists if you can perform the symmetry operation and the resulting molecule is indistinguishable from the molecule before the operation.  There are 5 symmetry elements.
