What is a Smart Room? A smartroom is a technologically equipped classroom in which all the equipment is integrated.  For our purposes, the equipment includes a smart board, Elmo, computer, VCR, projector, and audio equipment.  What are the Advantages to this Room? The advantages to faculty include: 1) Technology is already setup (no hooking up necessary)  2) It saves valuable class time  3) It is possible to move from one medium to another seamlessly 4) Affords flexibility (“teachable moment”). Internet allows for instant access to information. 5) Won't turn instructors away from technology because it is not a hassle The advantages to students include: 1) It addresses all learning styles. It is visual and also allows for kinesthetic learning as students can physically engage the material on the board. 2) Encourages students to use the technology  3) New and exciting 4) Refer to instructor's notes at any time

What can this technology do?

Elmo

Allows for quick, easy way to display visuals (Photos, slides, newspaper, magazines, transparencies, and even 3 dimensional objects) It also allows for the instructor to annotate on these sources using the smart board.  The elmo may be used instead of a standard overhead projector or classroom chalkboard.

 

Smart board 1) Can be used to take and record class notes  2) Don't have to erase this after class. You can now: e-mail it to students Post it to the web (click here to see example) Use it as a review at the end of class or the beginning of next class 3) Make templates prior to class 4) Students can interact with it
