CI 3850, Literacy Technology and Instruction
Culminating Project
The culminating activity for CI 3850 is a teaching presentation enhanced by
media and technology that is appropriate for your content area and age level.
The goals of this presentation are to utilize a suitable instructional strategy
that directly relates to a NC SCOS Objective for your target age group/content
area, collaborate with peers, effectively use technologies that are interesting
to students, build understanding through a sequence of activities (presentation
modes of overheads, PowerPoint, video, handouts, etc.) that require active learning
and creative higher order thinking skills, and finally evaluate and reflect
on the activity. Themes of literacy, technology and instruction from the course
must be apparent in your project as you determine the topic of the presentation.
Your written materials should include:
1. A paragraph naming and describing your instructional strategy(ies) and explaining how your instructional strategy(ies) meets the needs of the students in your particular grade/content area. Be specific.
D.2.1
T.2.5
C.2.6
2. A paragraph about how the technology tools you use meet the needs of multiple types of learners. Say exactly what types of learners are benefited.
D.2.3
T.1.1
T.1.2
C.2.5
3. State NCSCOS content standards covered.
C.1.2
C.2.11
4. Work in a group of up to 3. Turn in your rough outline (made with everyone present if working in a group) a week before the project is due.
C.5.2
T.6.2
5. In a paragraph, explain how you plan to make this learning experience interactive with reference to specific elements of your lesson. Include at least 10 questions you will ask, focusing on higher order thinking skills. Post all of your written materials as a document in a folder in the shared drive (Shared on RCOE > 3850 > Your Instructor > Culminating Project > Folder with your name).
D.2.2
T.2.1
T.5.1
6. You will lead a 15 minute interactive learning experience that includes an interactive PowerPoint, a piece of a video clip from United Streaming, and at least one other media or technology piece (preferably all incorporated into the PowerPoint). Use the notes section under each slide to give instructions to another teacher using the PowerPoint and to share higher order thinking skills questions you will ask. Click here for PowerPoint Tips -- especially how to compress your Presentation. Put your PowerPoint in your folder on the shared drive also.
C.5.2
C.2.3
7. After you have led your experience, put a reflection in
your folder (see above) about what happened when you taught and how you would
change it. You can add this at the bottom of your written document (#’s
1,2,3 and 5 above). If you work in a group, each member should write his or
her own reflection, though other written materials may be created cooperatively.
T.5.2
What you post in the shared folder must include your PowerPoint plus #'s 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7.
