Course Descriptions 

1000. Beginning Conversational German
Elementary conversational patterns for students without previous knowledge of German. 
The course is designed to allow studentsto acquire elementary speaking skills in the 
German language in preparation for more advanced study in the summer sessions on
campus and abroad. 

1040. Intermediate German I 
Focus on various aspects of culture, society, literature, traditions, and daily preoccupations 
through continued development of communicative language skills. Reinforcement, expansion, 
and sythesis of concepts of language and culture through contact with authentic materials.

1050. Intermediate German II 
A continuation of 1040. Focus on various aspects of culture, society, literature, traditions,
and daily preoccupations through continued development of communicative language skills.

Study of German institutions, philosophy, literature, and art prior to World War II.

including changes in the social, economic, and educational systems.
