COURSE
OBJECTIVES

To train an educated theatre audience

To introduce theatre as an art form

To study the various aspects of the theatre
and the work of theatre practitioners

To learn to appreciate the art of the theatre
within the context of the historical period and society in which it exists

assigned plays

Class attendance: Please Note: No more than
the equivalent of 1 week's classes in unexcused absences are allowed in
any Intro. to Theatre class (3 for this section). Your grade will be lowered
1/3 of a letter grade for each additional absence.
EXTRA
CREDIT

10 hours of APPROVED WORK IN ASU PRODUCTION.
Improves final grade by 1/3 of a letter grade. If you work less than 10
hours you will receive no extra credit. For scenic studio work, see Eric
Benson (Valborg Theatre, 2-5 pm). For costume work, see Dot Barber
(CWH 133A, 1-4 p.m.)

ACTING IN A PLAY. Improves final grade by
1/3 of a letter grade. Audition dates are listed on the back of this page.

ATTENDING EXTRA PRODUCTIONS. See play schedule
on back for details. Improves one test grade by 1/3 of a letter
grade. (On a ten point scale: approximately 1 point is added to the final
grade average.) You must attend the entire performance.
NO EXTRA CREDIT WILL BE APPLIED TO A GRADE
WHICH IS LESS THAN 50% OF POSSIBLE POINTS.

You are required to see two of the following
three plays and will be tested on the performances. You may attend
the remaining play as one of your extra credit performances (See Extra

EXTRA
CREDIT PERFORMANCES

Write a one to two page, typed paper on the
play evaluating the production. (The instructor reserves the right to reject
a paper which fails to meet minimum standards.)

Attach a program and a ticket stub to the
paper.

This extra credit paper is due the second
class day after the production.

TICKETS
The Valborg Theatre box office will open
for the season on September 1st; hours are 2-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Plan
to purchase tickets well in advance of performance--week night performances
often sell out!

You are responsible for obtaining tickets
in a timely fashion. The Valborg box office will typically hold tickets
for you until you can afford to pick them up, however, tickets must be
picked-up at least one-half hour before performance time.
Productions in Farthing Auditorium are
a part of the Performing Arts Series and must be purchased at the Farthing
Auditorium Box Office (open M-F, 10-6); tickets are on sale now.
