Introduction to Theatrical Design
Final Project
![]()
Objective: the effective communication of a design concept for an assigned script.
PART
I. A TEN MINUTE ORAL PRESENTATION.
This component is the most important and is weighted accordingly
in evaluating the final project grade.
Students should plan their presentation carefully and completely. The objective of this presentation is to communicate the validity and effectiveness of the design concept. Students should be prepared to answer questions at the conclusion of the presentation.
PART
II. A DESIGN NOTEBOOK.
Documentation of the design process including:
Written thoughts describing and supporting the student's interpretation of the script. Refer to the previous description of the Design Notebook. Research images that validates the artistic choices made regarding costumes and scenery. Brief notes explaining each image must be included.
PART
III. COSTUME DESIGNS.
Three Parts:
A thorough and complete costume plot, as in Fundamental Project I. C. A general description of how the design concept is implemented in all of the production's costumes. This can be included in the Design Notebook and/or the oral presentation. Three swatched renderings that illustrate the effectiveness of the implemented design concept. Characters for renderings will be assigned.
PART
IV. SCENIC DESIGNS.
Three Parts:
A 1/4" scale drafted designer's floor plan. A 1/2" scale presentational (finished) model. Not a white model; but a completely rendered and detailed model, including furnishings. A general description of how the design concept is implemented through the design of the scenery.
