COURSE DESCRIPTION:
                Advanced techniques in stage makeup for a variety of productions. Techniques to be covered include scars, stage blood, foam latex masks, three dimensional
                techniques, prosthetics and other special makeup effects. Prerequisite TD 2225 or permission of instructor.
 

COURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES:
                Students will become familiar with a variety of special effect makeup techniques and will become proficient in applying various three dimensional media. Students
                will make a negative mold of their face and will make a finished mask as their final project. Class will be lecture in form with strong emphasis on laboratory
                participation.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING:
                Makeup Assignments. (Five projects will be graded 20% each)
                Makeup application projects will be graded upon the following criteria:

• Preparation outside of class for materials to be used for individual projects in class. (Including makeup maps when appropriate.
• Reading assignments must be done prior to project deadline as individuals may implement different techniques. Class time will not allow students the luxury to do this reading in class or fake it!! Be prepared!!

• Beard and Moustache Project

Will be graded upon the following criteria:
• Realistic blending of colors used.
• Application of crepe hair to appliance.
• Appropriate texture of hair.
• Appropriate shape of appliance.
• Final effect of beard/moustache.

 
• 3D-Old Age Project
             Will be graded upon the following criteria:
• Realistic application of color used.
• Process/technique used.
• Appropriateness of texture (realistic).
• Final effect achieved

 
• Burns and Scar Project

Will be graded upon the following criteria:
• Realistic blending of colors for stage of burn/scar.
• Appropriateness of texture applied.
• Process/technique used.
• Final effect achieved (believability)

 
• Prosthetic Appliance Project

Will be graded upon the following criteria:
• Realistic color choices used.
• Smooth dimensioning of appliance
• Process/technique used..
• Final effect achieved

 
• Mask Making Project

Will be graded upon the following criteria:
• Preparation outside of class for materials to be used for the mask. (Including makeup map or sketch of front and side view of mask.)
• Reading assignments associated with the mask making method chosen by the student for the mask desired.
• Comfort and fit.
• Construction techniques used.
• Final effect achieved; neatness, believability, creativity , color, etc.

LAB FEES:

A minimal lab fee will be assessed each student. I will collect the fee and get you a receipt. The lab fee willinclude: Plaster of Paris, Prosthetic makeup, crepe hair, spirit gum/remover, modeling clay, modeling putty, latex and moulage. It will notinclude: Mask making supplies (unless you make prior arrangements), Vaseline, cardboard box, straw and/or bobby pins.

ATTENDANCE:

You are allowed one absence. For every absence over one the final letter grade will be deducted one-third. A student will be required to do each graded make up assignment on the assigned day. Late projects will not be accepted.
