Soon after your arrival on campus and after a personal interview to evaluate your speaking and listening proficiency and to discover your academic and personal interests, we will administer a reading test, and a holistically graded composition. You will then be assigned to a group composed of others whose skills and interests closely match your own. Institute classes meet 3-5 hours per week.
During the course of the program, you will receive frequent comprehensive individual evaluations. These include details regarding your specific strengths as well as suggestions to improve those areas that need further work. Course evaluations are designed to be both instructive, positive and supportive. One of our primary objectives is to increase your self- confidence in using English in the classroom and in the community.
An additional benefit of ENGLISH IN THE MOUNTAINS is our tutorial program. You will be matched with a specially chosen tutor who is a native speaker of English, who is studying to become an ESL teacher, and who shares many of your interests.
